Are you a parent looking for healthy activities to engage your children in the garden? Then look no further than our Wildlife Explorer Kit featuring a box of wildlife habitats and activity ideas for enquiring minds. Wildlife World is donating 50p from the sale of each kit to the Trussell Trust to ease hardship during these unprecedented times we are living through #wildlifeforwellbeing.
Now you are kitted out and ready to learn about butterflies, bugs and birds with your little ones!
Let’s go explore
Have you spotted a butterfly in your garden? Do you know what type it is? Could it be a Small Tortoiseshell or a grand sounding Red Admiral? See if you can identify your butterfly using your new mini guide. Do you know what butterflies like to eat? Let’s mix up some sugar and water and put it onto the sponge in your very own butterfly house and feeder.
Now let’s sow some wildflowers to make the garden pretty and provide food and nectar for our butterflies. What other bugs might we spy in the garden using your magnifying glass? Maybe a ladybird or a ladybug as some people call them. Let’s find a spot to put a ladybird tower in the garden for them. What about in the flower border or in the vegetable patch where they can munch on aphids that might spoil the green beans and tomatoes? Do you have a friendly Robin in your garden? He will love your new petal feeder to take tasty treats. How about some sunflower hearts, suet or even some mealworms for him. Now let’s find a space to put up your roosting pocket for a blue tit or a little nest for a ‘Jenny’ wren.
Activity – Instructions included for making a bird feeder garland.
We hope you enjoy your little box of inspiration and become a Wildlife Explorer in your garden.
