Bees

It might surprise you to learn that there are over 250 species of bee in the UK, ranging in size from 4mm – 25m in body length.

Some bees are described as ‘social’ and some are described as ‘solitary’ bees.

Bees feed on both nectar and pollen. Nectar is loaded with sugars and is the bees main source of energy, whilst pollen provides the balanced diet of proteins and fats. Bees are highly effective pollinators, feeding on plants of the same species and transferring pollen from flower to flower in the process. Bees play a vital role in food production, with one third of the food we eat dependent on pollination by bees.
