Now is Butterfly peak butterfly season. The 'Butterfly Bush' or Buddleia is in full bloom in our gardens and this draws in our favourite butterflies such as the Comma pictured above, Peacock, Red Admiral and the Painted Lady which migrates here all the way from North Africa.
To help in the conservation of butterflies why not get involved in the BIG BUTTERFLY COUNT. This year Butterfly Conservation have a free fun app to download to help you count and send in your results.
Other ideas for summer evenings are watching bats, just after sunset is perfect. Or looking for emerging dragonflies at dusk. Hedgehogs are very active now with mothers and hoglets around. Soft food or cat food is best for young hoglets while crunchy food is better for adults. Remember to leave out a shallow bowl of water for hedgehogs to drink.
